A Comparative Experimental Study on Tracheal Reconstruction between Using Auricular Cartilage and Thyroid Carilage Autograft in rabbit

Abstract
|
|
|
This study deals with comparing the effect of implanting two different materials for the tracheal reconstruction of rabbit.
The materials used for this study were auricular cartilage and thyroid cartillage. Following the autograft the patency of the tracheal lumen, re-epithelization of inner mucosal lining and the regenerative process of the grafted cartilages were observed histopathologically and following results were obtained:
1. Both auricular cartilage grafted group and the thyroid cartilage grafted group showed restenosis of the
trachea post-operatively and no differences were observed between two groups.
2. The normal re-epithelization of the inner mucosal lining was more pronounced in the thyroid cartilage grafted group than in the auricualr cartilage grafted group.
3. The regeneration of the auricular cartilage grafts had occurred in 2 cases, and the thyroid cartilage grafts, 5 cases.. The non-regenerating grits of the remaining cases were characterized by either calcification or resorption.
4. In the control group with only a tracheal window notable re-epithelization had occurred, but regeneration of the tracheal cartilage was not observable.
